Next year I want a set of custom build rods in 10ft 3.25Lb
-Not retractable
-No fast taper)
-Must have 1k weaving carbon
I fish max 90 yard meters with 3.25oz lead
I am now making a list for suitable Blanks
Have the following blanks so far
-Code: Chris orme
-Harrison (no idea which blank yet)
-Free spirit hi with custom build option
-Cotswold rod R1
Which blanks could I add, or looking at price quality which of these 4 would be best?
I know the best is to personally test at a rod builder, but due to corona I have to limit my contacts (I am from Belgium and only want to do 1 trip to the UK ) so I want to shorten my blank list to 1 / 2 options

Does Robbie still work with cotswolds? If so you might be able to try some rods closer to home

Just was looking through the forum mate yesterday because I am looking for someone to build me a set and a thread from about a year or two ago was ALOT of bad thing about him pissing people off, even calling him a disgrace and shouldn't even be in business still one blokes rods was 7 months late and had to get a refund off him, It's on a thread called “custom rod builders who and why” has 101 posts on it mate have a read that's the thread that put me off a lot

I'd already ordered from Chris before I saw that thread and my rods were 1week late, but I was made aware this would be the case a short time after I'd ordered, it was due to the reel seats I'd ordered being on back order. Build quality is superb and the pricing was decent too. It was a choice between him and Mark tunley and I went for Chris due to his price being nearly £100 per rod cheaper for the same build

Absolutely nothing wrong with chris .You will be waiting longer for rods as everyone struggling with furlogh and staff shortages due to covid ,I have always had my blanks delivered within 10 days now taking 10 weeks.

No idea yet which blank to go for, but Chris Orme is very friendly and helpful on facebook (
Saw a few few photos today: R1 vs Torrix, the Torrix seems like the better choice for me (more fish playing under the same conditions) but I also like Cotswold building style

Do they have to be 10ft? The aviator flex is one hell of a blank but only available in 12ft

I'm kind of hoping they release a flex 2 and 3 in the near future as they have with the plus models
A flex 3 would be right up my street.
Maybe that'll happen after they've updated the website
