I've just purchased the new Penn Affinity III's and they're brilliant, and I've just sold the Fox Fx11, and the ESP ONYX.
All honesty, the fox reels are substandard, and I love Fox gear

I've been a Shimano man for what seems a lifetime, tried the ESP Onyx Compacts and absolutely love them.
Not sure I'll ever return to my Shimmies, it's personal preference you have to find what ticks all your boxes and some.

You won't see affinities on eBay that often . The reason for that is it is an awesome reel with top line lay. Tap it in the search n you won't see many moans like you do with other famous brands

Imagine thats down to the fact they sell less. And also the fact that half the “issues” with daiwa for example, are made up by shimano fanboys who have never owned or used the reels they are slagging off, and vice versa. Penn dont seem to fall foul of that

Really? You think... I own a pile of Shimano reels and Daiwa. That's high end spinning and baitcasting reels, as well as my carp reels. In recent years, I think Shimano have started to lose the plot. Their spinning reels are still very good, but the carp reels are poor when directly compared to Daiwa models. I use the Basia 45SCW and Daiwa Castizm QD . Before buying, I looked at the equivalent Shimano and going Daiwa was an easy decision.

I can safely say the Daiwa Emblems are a dream to use but I have the 45's so not sure about the 35's

Is it nonsense though. Penn sell as many reels as daiwa or shimano? Doubt that very much. Maybe they dont get sold on cause they break eventually, or they arent worth much second hand so people dont sell them. There are numerous possibilities, me suggesting one possible reason is hardly nonsense. Suggesting a reel is better than what the op asked about, without justifying it, thats nonsense.
And there arent loads of people on here who will slag one brand off because they own the other? Do me a favour. Daiwa vs shimano, delkim vs fox etc. All the threads go the same way, and normally its people that dont own what they are slagging off, but their mates uncles dog had an issue.

Yes it's nonsense to say that half of the "issues" people mention are things which are made up or about reels they've not owned,or because they are fans of the other brand. Personally I've had shimano and daiwa reels, good and bad from both. I currently use the new gold spool emblems which are good reels, but the penns which I've always raved about are better

Oh in that case i apologise. The stories told by their mates uncles dog about their reels exploding must all be true.
