Upon winding my rods in on my syndicate from a recent session I noticed all hookbaits (trimmed down wafters) had been nibbled on and reduced in size by about half, firstly I put this down to small fish. But on throwing a handful of bait in the edge swarms of what I can only describe as small bloodworm covered the bait within minutes.

Was just wondering if anyone had encountered this before and if they found any bait that they weren't attracted to quite so much? In the 15 years I've been carp fishing I've never seen anything like it. Wasn't sure if this natural food source may be the reason the lake has fished so poorly these last couple months....

Hoping to start using red maggots soon as there the nearest thing I can think of to replicate them...

If your bait is attracting naturals so well you're onto a winner in my eyes , just use a hard hook bait and top up the swim a little more than you normally would

If your got bloodworm all over your hook bait / freebies then the carp wont be far behind.... I'd just use hard hookbaits as previously mentioned and wait for the scaiey bangers, old warriors to munch your bait....get in...bosh....up the Alamo etc. Etc.

The thing is I'm pretty sure it's not bloodworm just looks like it. I've left a fish in a sling in the edge for half hr, bought it out and the bottom of the fish is covered in them as well. The amount of the stuff in the lake must be ridiculous. I'm using baitworks Atlantic heat which I know attracts naturals but other syndicate members not using networks have had the same.

They will almost certainly be flatworms.
