Over the years I've used all types of suits and waterproofs
Basically nothing is really suitable or lives up to my expectations
I purchased a the vass insulated stuff Ona whim while in my local tackle
shop , I found this terrible in the cold to be honest so I cut out the insulation and
yes it's waterproof
I also have two army softies and Sasquatch and and elite which is my day to day coat
not used for fishing , all are warm and very comfortable
So when I saw reviews on YouTube about the poncho I thought I'll have some of that
Just to use from the van to the swim, when I get the odd bite
So nine months down the line I've used it maybe four times
It's been fine in light rain and then it gets dried and put back in the barrow
Anyway last week I used it during very prolonged rain to get to my swim, I then took it off once I was
Set up etc , and again at 5 when I got a run
After releasing the fish and sitting down I realised I was bloody cold
When I took it off I was saturated , luckily I had fresh clothes in the van
I contacted snugpak who won't deal with me because I can't find my online receipt
I'm not a happy bunny to be honest I couldn't give a dam about a refund or replacement
As it's only a single skin nylon thing with some sort of coating and it will never do the job I'm the long run
This is maybe a warning to choose carefully when buying waterproofs
Ok I'm only fishing not stuck up a mountain lol

I can't get my head around it though
I remember as a kid being told don't touch the inside of the tent when it
rains as it will make it leak
What's your poncho made of ?
I'm a heartened fisherman who fishes through anything and as I explained
These type of waterproofs are ok for light duties but can't be good during
proper rain

I have no idea, must be something very cheap for the price... not touching tents was a rule 25 years a go, not with todays materials... you should maybe start thinking in a line of condensation and not so much leaking... when you sweat if material is not breathable you will get moisture on the inside, common known problem... I dont know really to be honest when there is proper rain I prefer sitting in my bivvy

Are you sure it's leaked and its not just your sweat that has soaked you? I wear waterproofs a fair bit at work and you always end up wet, but that's sweat and condensation, not the proofs leaking.

Think it was more than 25 years ago to be honest
I've just ordered the German goretex stuff that's highly regarded on here
From experience it will only be used when it has to
As I've said already there isn't a warm dry comfortable coat in existence
Because breathable material is akin to wearing a face mask lol
and once wet no longer breathes
Think I bung my barrow cover over my head as that seems to work
Maybe I've got a dodgy poncho but I still cant see how it works effectively in proper wet conditions
Even some of the reviews I've read state that they are not a replacement for waterproof jackets
Snugpaks website claims 100% waterproof
If I could load pics I could show you clear seems that have turned white through water ingress

I put it to the play a fish
After weighing and returning , didn't bother with a photo as it was raining lol
I've been fishing for 40 years and started with a tarp and a skip light 😂

The way most waterproof clothes work is the material is just a carrier for the waterproof membrane and the fabric itself is treaded with something to make it repel water in the first place. Neither are 100% waterproof but you need both to have at least some degree of waterproof-ness.
With these cheaper poncho's (I have one made by HelikonTex) its just a rip-stop nylon with a very thin PVC (non breathable) waterproof layer. If could be this PVC layer has perished, or the seams have gone or haven't been sealed. But its unlikely to be that unless the leak is localised to one spot - usually where there is the most wear like the shoulders if you wear a bergen.
You could try to re-invigorate the repellency on the fabric itself with something like Fabsil or Nikwax - its basically Silicon dissolved in a solvent you spray on, the solution then soaks into the fabric and the solvent evaporates leaving the silicon behind inside the fibres of the fabric. Over time this silicon wears off - especially if you're constantly folding them up etc.
A quick test you can do at home is to check if water beads off or not. If the water beads off then the silicon is still in tact and doesn't need replacing, but if you're still getting wet then it could be the membrane itself has gone and there's nothing you can do when this happens. If however the water soaks into the material rather than beading off then you may find re-coating with Fabsil or Nikwax will do the trick.
Cant comment on Snugpaks poncho but the rest of their gear is spot on so I'd be surprised if they sold something that isnt up to snuff. If you're looking to replace it then I'd defo recommend the HelikonTex poncho - never leave home without mine - actually that's a lie - it's always in my fishing bag - such a versatile bit of kit - quick to throw over if you get a run, can make an extension off the front of your bivvy with a couple of storm poles a couple of bivvy pegs, couple of bungies and some guy lines or use it as a barrow cover.

Snugpak have got back to me as I was offended by their first reply
Anyway I don't want a refund or exchange I can't be bothered with the hassle
