Looking at purchasing a couple of the Shimano Baitrunner XT-B LC Reels but not sure if I should get the medium or big version.

Will be fishing 120 yards max.

For that distance the medium should be plenty

However, there are some negative comments on the reels with the spool clicker and line guard, possibly the line roller too

I'm not sure if this is only the medium or both and or the ci4 or not

I fancied a set of the mediums but am put off with the issues I've read of, not sure what other alternatives for a pit reel and baitrunner / freespool. I'm not sure the br 25a has a decent enough sized spool or not

I've got the big versions don't worry about any of the problems you read about I've had mine almost 2 years now, I got them the day they come out and haven't had any problem with any of them still working like new. Brilliant reels, yeah the line guard ain't great but it's not a problem if you don't over spool them
