Ok

I'm getting coots all over me at the moment and I'm sure they can smell my bait before they find it .. ( I've actually started baiting up at night to stop them spotting it going in and 1st light they are all over it!!)

Have read about people using laser pens and seen a tufty torch but its just a red light from what I can see

Anyone using anything and does it work

Yep I use both a tufty torch and laser pens and they both work

Im convinced birds can smell the bait, the leakage must taint the water and they know where to find it...
Even tufties in the dark, little asswipes

Sensing out aminos maybe that triggers as a smell as we know it?

I've got one of those tufty red lights, they are highly effective though I think that as annoying as having the blighters diving on your baited spots, you can use it to your advantage by using diving birds as a visual attractant, because as many know, carp are extremely inquisitive fish that do get drawn to bird's diving. The only thing is is can you resist from loosing your cool watching your bobbins go up and down with bird's picking up your hookbait preying that a cyp will mooch over and move the gits out of the way?
