This may be a strange ask - but I will ask anyway! I am looking to buy a carp bed to predominantly use at home to sleep on downstairs when I am unable to get up my stairs. I will also use it on the bank on occasions but as I say it will be mostly used at home. For this reason the weight is not an important factor, rather it has to be reliability for comfort as it will be used considerably, particularly in the winter months. I need to be able to adjust it in terms of firmness as that will be essential over different nights. Make/brand is irrelevant as my fishing gear shows!!! Fortunately for me cost is a second consideration. Any help, advice, suggestions gratefully received. Thank you

Without any doubt the most comfortable bed I've ever owned is the Solar SpTec. It's definitely not light weight though.

Thanks for that - can you adjust the firmness of this bed?

Not really. It's a firm bed. Some guys who prefer it to be a bit softer use an additional inflatable mattress. I suffer with my back so I like the firmness. I've never used the inflatable types but I'm sure someone on here could point you towards a good one.

It does seem to be
people with back problems or wake up with back ache benefit from using a very firm bed and sleep on their back
thats why orthopedic beds are always firm
however people that think a firm bed is uncomfortable generally are people that sleep on their side and so need a soft bed
so although I dont own one and have never slept on one I would say the new Solar bed would probably be the best bet

Thanks for the replies - before posting and having spent a while trawling through various reviews I had actually narrowed things down to two possibilities. I wanted to see what others thought before I posted anything on here. Firm bed I totally agree with - that is what I have at home in my bedroom. However, almost as regularly I move into my spare bedroom where I have a softer bed and sleep on my side! The joy of getting older and messing my back up when younger - a lesson for any youngsters! Hence the reason why I was looking at a firm bed with the possibility of adjusting the firmness being the second thought. The two beds I came up with where the Solar (although I couldn't see how I could adjust it) and the Fox Flatliner as it appeared to have plenty of support (though not as much as the Solar) but I could adjust if I wanted it softer. I wish the stockists around here at them in stock to try - but struggling to find them available locally to try at present. Hopefully that will change as the opening up of things improves gets more products in stock. At present though I am swaying toward the Solar and only if needed later getting a thin air mattress for it. Thanks for suggestions so far.

I'm a funny sleeper think I sleep a third on my back, third on my side and third on front but mainly drop off on side towards front and wake up in any of the above positions. Its always at 5 every morning on the dot, 15 years of catching the first train into London, it even now annoys my missus so i still get up at 5 and potter round the kitchen trying to be as quiet as possible
and now retired she usually finds me cat napping on sofa when she gets up at 7.30

dont know if this will be of use to you but if you have wooden floors be careful.
i was using a fox bedchair as a chair while i was waiting for a new suite delivery then one day both sets of welds went where the leg met the bracket that attaches to the chair.
when sitting down on it because the feet had nothing to dig in to they were sliding away from each other putting a lot of strain on the welds, didnt take long either.

Know what it's like. I cannot remember the last time me and a bed were as one after 4ish! I must confess to sleep and bed envy of others. You movement in and around when you are there mimics my own. Think the Solar is winning and they may well be having my money soon!
