Both have merits, both aren't perfect. I know there relatively new and yes, they are both heavy but this will be for 72hr or more so the weight isn't a huge factor, they both go on the barra.
The Pioneer is quicker to put up, but not significantly quicker, the Tempest 100 have a lot of options.
The Tempest format is well known but does anyone have the latest advanced 100 version. There seems to be a crazy amount of variant of the tempest
The Pioneer, I know people say the 100 is too small, the 150 may be possibly to big, the tempest sits between them.
Johnson ross isnt open, or Id go and see them in the flesh as I believe they have them set up.
Any pro's or Con's please

I really wanted to like the new Pioneer having been a huge fan of the original but bivvy design has come on so much that it is now sadly outdated. The Tempest is the new kid on the block and for me the far better shelter out of the two, lighter, quicker to erect and more user friendly space.
Throw into the mix lots of reported problems with the Pioneer, particularly the 150 and there's no comparison.
Although if it was me i would go for neither and have the Titan T1 instead...

Spod, thanks, hear what ya saying but id rather eat dog mess than buy anything Nash.
You think the tempest is quicker to erect than the Pioneer ? Do you not have to put poles together on the tempest anymore ?
The problems you've heard about the 150 ? Build quality obviously ?

I have the tempest 100 bivvy and as with all the tempests love it. I actually like the additional vents and also the option to have open at the bottom. Plenty of options as you say with add ons. You can get for very good price from various shops so shop around. I got it for 650 including the skull cap.
2 of my friends have the pioneer 150, one had issue with taped seems coming loose and both have pin holes, I've seen this on a few on Facebook, I am sure they will sort it but something to bear in mind. Based on the 2 I went for the tempest as quick erect, more options and reasonably priced.

I looked at the pioneer yesterday and it is tiny, im 6' 2" and the top of the door is 'about' waist height. Felt fine once you where inside mind.

Personal opinion mate. The T1 is an awesome shelter, agree Nash have got many things wrong but not with this.
anyway, yes you have to put poles together on the Tempest but you have to mess around with 4 storm poles on the Pioneer or it wont stand up. With the Tempest you just fan it out and 4 pegs later its ready to rock.
Yeah build quality as pointed out by Rich, heard numerous stories of the taped seams going after the first couple of uses.

I know it's a bit of a drive but seeing as you are spending proper money it may be worth it. Browns in Leighton Buzzard had pioneers and tempests set up before the lockdown. They have a fairly large indoor bivvy section with several set. With bedchairs in that you can swap about. And they are now open.
And just to throw a spanner in the works. Have you seen the video on YouTube of the carpology review of the sonic Axs shelters? They look good and very reasonably priced.

Having owned the titan tc Pro I completely agree its a better shelter than both in question. All round quality and design is better, only reason I went back to a tempest is because its easier to out up and take down and the skull cap provides protection from condensation. Titan is definitely better but what I want the tempest is my choice. Good luck though mate as I'm sure you will be happy either way. Personally I think the pioneer is well over prices, has small vents and as spod says needs 4 storm poles to keep up when erected...

cheers guys some really balanced views on both. Im gonna have to go and see both in the flesh. I don't want a HUGE bivvi, and both 100 versions sound about right, so Ill have to go and see them, set up and judge how they look space wise with a wideboy in there.
Theres always a concern over build quality with both Trakker and Aqua now days, certainly aint the company they were, quality wise. Heard the horror stories from both companies.
I like both, both have there attributes, neither are perfect though eh. No such thing. Thanks for the input.

If you are anything over 5ft 5 you will go for the Tempest....

Hiya mate, i don't think it was the 100. If it was, a smaller variation would be unusable in my eyes. Seemed a well made thing though.
It had some advanta bedchair in it.
For me its a case of heart says Aqua, brain says Tempest. But in term of practicality the four storm poles on the pioneer would just piss me off i reckon. Im going for the V2 tempest brolly personally.

As you say Denzel, heart says Aqua, head says Trakker. The one thing that worrys me is Ive seen what I thought was a Tempest 150 on the bank and it was HUGE, only to be told its actually a Tempest 100. It was cavernous. If that was true, it was a 100, that's far to big. I just don't need that much space.
Im 6.1, use a wideboy bed and 2 small carryalls. That's it. With the HUGE tempest in mind Im swaying to the Pioneer.
Looks like im gonna have to bite the bullet and drive to a shop with one up and a bedchair in to make the decision.
Ill have a butchers on the Aqua page, see if theres any pics with bedchairs insitu.
