Im a fan of threading mesh sticks onto my hook length when fishing bottom baits and ive been testing how these breakdown in the sink after retrieving a rig last week with a big blob of PVA on the hook.

I did this in the kitchen sink and every time the bag dissolved a big glob of PVA gathered around the hook, and in some cases the contraction of the PVA twisted the hook length up rendering it useless. The big glob didn't disappear either, i left it for an hour and it was still there showing no sign of shifting.

I use a longish hair, so a PVA bag threaded on stops the hair tangling, also if there is a little chod the rig settles and the bag melts without the hook getting fouled by any debris.


Any ideas, is there such a thing as a residue-less PVA?

Best mesh I have found is carpcraze on ebay or ESP

Another vote for ESP.
Never had any residue left

It's my favourite but if I ever forget to order and run out I pick up the ESP as a make do

Carpcraze and ESP prior to them, I've had the odd batch that didn't melt due to extreme cold water and they don't work well if plume juice has been added a coupe of hours before but on the hole they supply great PVA

I've always used ESP without any issues, was needing to stock up and looked on your recommended Carp Craze, 20m of 35mm £11.99 bargain, bought two lol, that'll keep me going for a while and it's made in England

Been using ESP PVA mesh the last few years on the river and never had any residue.

Pva dosent work well in cold water any way bud

In the cold I used Fox quick melt but it only takes a little dampness and pva melts but didn't see much residue
