Right I have narrowed my choice down to the following
Sonik Dominator X 3lb
Or
Sonik Xtractor 3.25 or 3.5
I like the idea of the short packaway dimensions
of the Xtractor but am a bit concerned about the durability of the retractable section over the trad 2 piece of the Dominator X
Anyone got any views

I don't know how much use this will be to you as i have no experience of the brand you are asking about but i had similar worries to you initially. I have rebuilt a very well used nash scope which had a worn butt section and that was pretty simple which put my mind at rest a little bit knowing i can keep them going so to speak. I never thought i would say this but i do love the compact pack down size and convenience of being able to hide my rods in my car boot whilst the seats are still up, very discreet. The 10ft pace ones i have seem pretty capable too for the type of fishing i do mainly close in to mid range. I think a lot of the accidents that happen with these types of rods happen in the setting up stage as you hear of snapped tips particularly where the user has forgotten to loosen the drag whilst extending the butt and i haven't heard of many problems with the butt sections other than wear. Of course I'm relatively new to these so time will tell but so far so good

Had my extractor out for 3 sessions and already seeing the end of the retractable section suffering damage.
Mine could well be a one off tho as It came with one of the eyes Misaligned. Should of sent it back originaly.
I like the rod, perfect for what I want but it's very cheaply made. I'd want to see any Sonik rod in the flesh before parting with Any cash.
Ironically I went with the xtractor because I'd heard plenty of bad things about my other option the Nash dwarfs.
Like I say mine could be a one off as I'd not heard any bad reviews before buying.
Just using it as a beater for the canal now while looking around for something else

It was the retractable bit that put me off buying a set of Scopes but one of the lads where I fish has had his a few years now and they are still in excellent condition. Sonik have a good reputation so I am sure you will be fine.
