Was interested in a trip to Sumbar next year but after speaking to the company that do the trips I've been put off the idea now as the cost of travel is ridiculous

Any border payments you need to pay really.

Plus any suggestions for hotels on route that you stopped at that were good?

Thanks

You will need to purchase Vignettes to travel through some countries. This is where I got put off by the idea, the person I spoke to at Carp Escapes said it's about €1200 for the tolls and Vignettes and another £3-400 in fuel.

With the cost of the fishing, hotels, bait, food etc it was just getting ridiculously expensive for a weeks fishing for me

Nowhere near that in tolls mate, we traveled across france which is the most expensive but straight forward route. I would have to check but € 240 each way was the cost if I remember correctly.
The fuel was around €400 each way.
Never stopped in any hotels done the journey in one hit alternating the driving.
If you are having the food package i would strongly suggest you at least take grub for breakfast, some of the stuff in the evening was ok but i will not be eating it this year.
As far as the vignettes go , they can be bought from garages but to be honest i only bought one for i think croatia never had any grief .
When traveling i carry 5 gallon of diesel and a funnel just in case and almost needed to use it out there as you can get on long stretches of motorway with no garages.
I don't know what the situation is regarding boats they were talking about banning them which will make things harder but I haven't heard either way.
Its a cracking place and if you get it right the catches are crazy.
Good luck

Go via belgium and luksemburg (cheap fuel) and you will have less than 200eur in toll... You need to buy vignet for austria and slovenia... Getting caught without one will be super expensive....

Did you go over in a large van by any chance?

When I was speaking to the bloke from Carp Escapes I asked how much roughly the tolls and vignettes are for travelling in a large van as I wanted to try and work out the cost of the trip and he said the cost of tolls/vignettes is about €1200. Not sure why he would tell me that

As soon as he said it's that much just for the tolls it put me off the whole trip. I knew it was going to be an expensive trip with the extra fuel, tolls, hotels, time of work etc than a normal week in France but when he said €1200 for tolls that's was the end of that trip for me
