Any one got any info on them and how they perform im in the market for a new spod rod but cant make my mind up with this or a torrix spod rod

Hiya, I have used the century c2d spodding machine for about 3 1/2 years now,
Visually I don't find it attractive at all, it's a big thick Hefty rod, reminds me of a beach caster lol
Super stiff, you have to sorta learn how to use it,
I absolutely love it, and wouldn't swap it for anything, it's giving me the ability to cast spombs to the horizon, it took practice to use it but before I struggled with the large spombS and now I chuck them out with ease,
Most of all it's super accurate, I couldn't believe how straight I now cast spombs!!
I can't vouch for the other rod I question, I'm sure it's brilliant also and would give me similar results

Don't get a spod rod with a alps reel seat or any distance rod for that matter. I have c2ds broke multiple times all in the same place the reel seat.

Took your advice and didnt buy the century c2d spod went for the harrison torrix spod rod looking forward to giveing it a chuck

You won't regret it mate the alps reel seats are shocking they don't flex with the rod on big casts and often resulting in a break. I have the c2ds and for a spod I went with the aviator yet to use it yet though

Are you not concerned that the seats on your fishing rods would cause the same issue?
I have heard of the alps seats breaking blanks but never a first hand account, always a friend of a friend deal. I have them on my century C2s and have never worried about it personally. Work on the basis of the big boys wouldn't fit them if they would damage rods and their reputation.

James I have a set of c2ds and 2 out of the 3 have been replaced. Both snapped inside the alps reel seat. After speaking to a rod builder he said it was a regular occurrence on distance rods with alps reel seats because there is no flex in the reel seat and on compression of the rod the carbon can come into contact with the reel seat and cause it to break. I even spoke to terry Edmonds and he confirmed that rods with alps reel seats have the same issue and he has broken huge numbers around the reel seat. And yes it does concern me having rods that are prone to breaking especially when they cost a small fortune and I often take rods I can't cast as far but are more reliable if fishing far from home. If I am wary about chucking a 4oz lead on them I certainly wouldn't want to be chucking a big spomb out with one.
Have you seen the new rods in the lineup? Not a alps reel seat in sight. Been told the new seats include graphine and it will flex with the rod and reduce breakages. I wouldn't buy again in fact I might stick them on e bay and put that towards some aviators.

Sorry I misread your post, thought you were saying you wouldn't get a spod rod with an alps, missed you saying yours had broken.
I have them on my 2.75 C2s, don't ever give it a big one with these rods so hopefully will never be an issue. What happened to you is a huge bummer given the price tag of the rods. Seems strange that the issue wasn't forseen, as does make sense, nor became apparent in testing.

I own a c2d spodrod and hi's spodrod but the c2d is an absolute beast. As mentioned earlier it takes some time to control this animal😄. But if you want to cast fully loaded big spombs really far out, this is the one. I only placed the reelseat further up the blank, because on the standard rod i think the handle is too short.
No way this alps reelseat will cause breakage because only the tip section will bend a bit during the cast.
The hi's spodrod (13ft) is more forgiving and parabolic. Very easy to cast big spombs upto 100meter and midi spombs much further. A real pleasure using this rod.

Have owned my custom c2ds and c2d spod rod for well over 3 years and have slammed them constantly, I'm lucky and have use of a private field I practice casting in, I've been hitting them as hard as possible with braided shock leaders constantly, I have not had a single issue with the alps reel seats!
I have full confidence in casting big heavy leads or launching the large spomb!

I broke mine twice at the reel seat with 15lb line straight through both times the lead sailed out without a crack off. I couldn't even bring myself to load mine up with a shockleader because I know it will bust eventually. Just my findings I wouldn't have them again if someone gave them to me.
