Years ago I had some Emcasts. Really can't remember much about them but I now have Emblem BR25A's and I love them. Decent sized spool for the size, so casting is a treat. Solid build quality, slightly smaller size so they balance my 11' rods superbly. Prior to this I had the Shimano XT-A medium longcasts, but much prefer the Emblems. They seem more solid to me.
The only thing I don't like about them is the fact that spare spools are bloody expensive!!

Spare spool aside, the Emblems are a much better reel than the Emcast.

Out of interest, what 11 footers have you guys got? It's going to be the chub small waters or the Greys GT2 for me I think. The higher priced Harrison/Free Spirit options look great but the pennies won't stretch that far for now.

I had a pair of the Emcast 19 Br LT 4000's and sold them straight away. Very smooth and light but the line clip was absolutely shocking! If you regularly clip up then avoid as the clips will damage the line every time. They are similar to the 80's style clips designed purely to grip the line in transit and definitely not for using for accuracy. Emailed Daiwa about it and was told they would look into it but I wouldn't hold your breath. If the 5000's have the same clip then seriously reconsider your choice!

I had 3 of the Outkast "Small waters" for quite a few years, and loved them. Great rods for the money and I would have no hesitation in recommending them to somebody looking for a really light rod. They weigh next to nothing and are perfect if you want to try a bit of surface fishing as well, as you don't even know you are holding them.
Wanting something with a little more "backbone" as I'm now fishing a much snaggier lake, I was torn between the FreeSpirit TS's or Baby Ballista's. Ended up going for the TS's and don't regret it one bit. They are lovely rods.
The GT2's weren't around when I was making my decision on the Outkasts 6 or 7 years ago. 11' rods were/are still few and far between. They read well. If you have anyone nearby who stocks both, worth going to have a play with them. But my experience says that you won't go wrong with the Chub Outkasts.

Thanks, that's really helpful. Sadly it appears the chubs have now been discontinued and are tricky to come by, so it's looking like the Greys unless I can pick up a second hand set.
Do fancy a pair of Baby Ballistas at some point when funds allow... one day! 👍🏻

I've got the br25a emblem's, they are fantastic reels. Always used shimano's but these are as good if not better then any shimano's I've had.
