Hello

I've used Richworth for decades and was always happy with their pop up mix since their demise I've used another bait companies pop up mix and have always felt it is an inferior product.

What do you guys think is the best alternative and why?

BAF - probably the best popup mix available

I was using the Cc Moores stuff and I wasn't unhappy with it, but after recommendations on here I thought I'd try the BAF. It's definitely better, I wanted to make sure all the additives I'd put in hadn't affected the buoyancy too much as it was my first batch. So once they were ready I pierced one and tied one on to weights and put them in a bowl of water. They lasted 16 days before finally breaking down and floating. I reckon I probably could have doubled the amount of additional powders I used and it still wouldn't have affected them.

As the other chaps have said, the BAF one is excellent, far superior to CCMoore, Mainline etc.

Same here, I used the richworth ones for a long time and thought they were brilliant. Not tried the baf but i'll now give it a go

If anyone knows what the ingredients are that makes the base of a plain pop up mix I'd be interested to know, PM if needed

It's many years since I read it, but Mike Willmotts first book has a detailed bait section in it and I think he gave ingredient details for a pop up mix.

Most of the commercial 'air ball' pop up mix recipes include glass spheres which can pose a health risk. Personally I wouldn't bother formulating your own, buy in a pre-mixed product and exercise caution until the paste is formed when mixing. Happy Rolling

If you are interested in formulating your own pop up mix...it's called 'pop up mix from scratch by Anthony woods. Makes for interesting reading. I have been using glass spheres for years. And no problems. Just be carefull with them. Hope that helps.
