Not used this Forum before so Im not entirely sure how it works, I did a-lot of fishing with my dad when i was younger and trying to get back into it, Ive found i have 2, John wilson Avon quiver travel rods, The TC is 1 1/4 LB. the rod case also states "reel lines 3-6LB"
my questions are the following
1) Do the different Quiver tips change the TC?
2) How do i match a reel to a rod ( what size reel to buy)?
3) What is the specific use of this rod, can i ledger and also float fish?
4) What line should I use and do i need a leader or not?, How do i determine what leader to use?
5) The rod is 11Ft this feels quite long is this still suitable for fishing small lakes and ponds?
6) Ive looked online and seen that this test curve looks quite low compared to carp rods, does this mean i will struggle to fight bigger fish?

Unlikely. The test curve of the rod comes from the way the carbon is layered and what types are used.
2) How do i match a reel to a rod ( what size reel to buy)?
I'd take the rod to your local tackle shop when it re opens. Without seeing the reel seat that's a big tough to answer.
3) What is the specific use of this rod, can i ledger and also float fish?
If it's a quiver tip it's primarily designed for use with leads and feeders.
4) What line should I use and do i need a leader or not?, How do i determine what leader to use?
You don't need a leader as with a light rod like that you are not going to be trying to chuck out big heavy leads.

Yes.

You certainly won't have the control over a big carp that a higher test curve rod would give you but if you are just starting out you probably shouldn't be fishing for them in all honesty.

The first 20lb carp I caught was on a Wilson Avon rod. I was expecting a tench. I agreed with Wayne, it's probably not the best kit to use if you are starting out with carp fishing, but I would add that carp fishing isn't the best place to start if you a resuming fishing after a long break. When you get the chance, spend a few sessions on a match lake or similar using the rod as a feeder rod to get the feel of it again.

JW Avon Quiver is a great all rounder and you must bear in mind that the original cane MKiv rod was only 1.5 test curve. I used to fish and take carp to 15lb on a JW Avon/quiver from a small pool using a centre pin and 4lb line. Such tactics would be hopeless on snaggy waters or where long casting may be needed. Tackle is all 'horses for courses' but you have a couple of rods there that can fill many gaps.
With the Avon tip you can fish with a float or bottom bait but the quiver tip is there as a bite indicator that is sensitive and will show small bites that the Avon tip may not. If you are carping then a bobbin style bite indicator with the Avon top will suffice.
The rods will take lines from about 3 to 10lb breaking strain.

No, we used quivertips on 2.75lb tc rods when fishing at range to dampen feedback / indications from silver's when using large beds of bait. Also for any waves / water motion.
Shimano used to do a 3.5lb tc rod with a quivertip attachment for carp / pike / catfish as well.
