Whilst currently on lockdown I am amusing myself by watching fishing videos and buying tackle I am not sure when I am going to be able to use.
I have always used a 2 rod set up paired with 2 x hybrid spod/marker rods so can have one dedicated to each rod and avoid having to constantly re clip etc
I am wondering whether I would gain any benefit in purchasing a third rod/reel and running a three rod set up?
I currently have 2 x 10ft 2.75lb rods with Daiwa SS2600 reels and then 2 x 12ft 3.5lb rods with Tournament 5000T reels and was thiking rather than have even more money tied up in gear, selling either the 2 x SS2600 or 2 x 5000T reels to go toward the extra purchase.
Do you think the SS2600 on the 12ft rod would make much difference to my casting distance compared to the 5000T or would the 5000T give a much better/noticable casting distance? Normally I would just pop a couple of 4oz leds on and try but cannot leave the house and my neighbours aren't too far away
The SS2600 are perfect on the 10ft rods where the 5000T might be a bit too big, but then would the SS2600 hinder the casting when I swap to the large rods when tackling larger waters? I fish pretty much a 50/50 mix of large and small waters with my casting not amazing for major distance but can consistantly hit around 35 wraps reasonably accuracy.

I know three rods is the norm and on a big pit probably needed, but I use a two rod setup purely because it's quicker, lighter, and much less stressful to be honest.
I have sonik xtractors i use when I'm being ultra mobile and because they fit in the boot of my car lol and then I have my 12ft 3.25 as my normal rods, I have Shimano aero 6000 gte on xtractors and 5500 xtds on 12ft but I've used them on xtractors also and they're probably my preference for all round.
I don't think the ss2600 could compare distance wise.

If you use 2600 on 12ft rods they will take ages to wind in a mate uses 5000t on 10ft I also know someone who uses emblem 45 on 10fts

Get rid of the small rod set up , you can do everything with 12ft rods aslong as you are not under trees you cant do everything with shorter rods and smaller reels.No comparison with reels regarding casting.

Thanks all. I think I am going to sell the 2 x SS2600's and put that money towards a third rod and 5000T reel set up.
I am going to keep the 10ft rods and just use with the larger reels if needed but appreciate that the 12ft's are able to do more.

Thanks mate. I have only ever used 2 rods for ease of moving around but recently purchased a barrow so just fancied a try.
Most likley will be on eBay a week after being allowed to fish again

I feel like I have hit a plateau in my casting too, I think some of it is down to my technique which I need to book a tuition with TE or Mark Hutchinson to address but also some down to my reels. I have tried both Century 12ft 3.5lb and Cotswold R1 Extreme's 12'6 3.75lb with my Baitrunner ci4 medium reels, and hit a wall at about 32 wraps on either with either 15lb 0.37mm straight through and Shimano 12lb mono with a tapered mono leader.
I'm not the worlds biggest caster but feel I should be hitting another 5 wraps with this set up really, with tuition and larger reels I believe I could achieve 40 wraps.
Thoughts on the reel front guys?

Just to confirm this is with a standard baited Ronnie rig, on a lead clip set up and casting a 4oz zip lead.

lol 45 emblems on a 10ft rod is awful, way way to big. The balance would be terrible, the best reels for 10ft rods are daiwa castzm, ultegra 5500, gs 4000, fox eos 10000.
as for the daiwa tournament 5000t im not sure, im interested to see how that would feel.
