Morning. Ive got myself a microcat hd 2nd hand for a decent price. Im in france a fair bit this year and could do with a sonar of sorts

Will a deeper (subject to its limitations) work with a microcat? If not, what you be your recommendations for a retrofitted sonar on this boat? Thanks

It depends on which handset the bait boat has , if it s 2.4ghz it needs AFHDS, which means it changes the channel until it gets signal as the deeper is also 2.4ghz.

I have had my deeper pro up-to bout 80 Yds on my technicat mk2, the moded versions go a lot further but you need to know how to do it or know someone whos done it.

you could use a Lucky Wireless Sonar Fish Finder FF918-C, which are about £100, mount it on the outside of the boat with its own 12v power source, if you dont want to open the boat up and retro fit it .

Or Horizon fish finders which are cheap enough if you mod them yourself they are readily available on Amazon and ebay, or go direct to Horizon and pay the extra for them to mod one.

I have a Lawrence 4x that has been converted to fit onto a microcat. The sonar plugs into the jack plug on the microcat and the remote head unit comes in a small hard briefcase size box with a 12v battery. I used to use this with the AT GPS system. I no longer use it anymore though as my syndicates don't allow baitboats.

I've got the Horizon Standard Plus on my mk1 cat, it's absolutely fine for feature finding and has range of 400 yards. Don't think the price of £135 is unreasonable at all, and you can velcro it on or off as needed so only using it when you need it. Plus as an extra you can buy a castable sonar and use without the boat (been handy for finding the deep channels on the rivers this year )

Ive towed my deeper at the front of my microcar using the deeper arm and its been fine
