Dunno if it needs to be clarified for anyone, but herd immunity is just the definition of the inability of the virus to spread further, it can be achieved by any combination of vaccines, social distancing / public health measures and natural immunity.
The only things to consider are how many people become ill and / or die, in the process, and how impactful the unintended consequences are. It's these things intimately that we are all arguing about.

Apart from social distance contributing to immunity, which allows zero transmission, I agree.
Social distancing applies to your 2nd point, it protects the vulnerable
It's amusing how anybody who dared utter herd immunity previously was a loon and that very first press conference where they discussed shielding the vulnerable and letting younger, healthier folk get it was so controversial.. yet they allowed kids to go anywhere unmasked and 000s of manual and low skilled people (most of them younger than the age bracket at risk) to work and make what contribution they could to paying those already more financially secure to stay home.
Now the vaccine camp have adopted the term and those who have been a long time banging that drum know nothing lol
It's something I've known is afoot and posted from the start. 40k+ cases a day and we were totally unrestricted? The vaccine is just a buffer for those at risk. Anybody remember the open discussions about weighing up the benefits against side effects, including death?
Same as the moral high ground argument about having a vaccine or not but somebody else decided for you by way of a bloody computer algorithm if it's worth gambling your life at it's midway point to potentially save 94 year old Dorothy at number 16.

It wouldn't be possible to have zero transmission by social distancing alone. It's not practical for everyone to remain at least 2m apart at all times (although me and the missus have achieved it for the last 15 years)

Wrong Jamie. I tested negative for 10 days whilst I was ill........went to hospital with chest pain and tested positive. Funny thing is the bloke asked me if I was vaccinated, when I said no he then said I had to be tested. I do wonder if I had said yes would he have tested me at all........

I do 2 tests a week for work purposes.......I did LFT the morning I fell ill which was negative and 3 days before that. PCR was done after 10 days of being ill and positive. We're told It's Pointless doing LFT once you are ill / have symptoms as it's doesn't pick it up but when my daughter had Covid in August she was doing an LFT everyday whilst ill and they kept coming back positive.......
I think I had a bad cold and then got CV after 7 - 8 days of being ill with that.

Yes exactly LF is for no symptoms really and PCR for when you have. I think the Govt and the Press should have sold that a bit harder.
