Exactly right.
If you can afford fancy new gear and it makes you happy - then fine.
But if you have a limited budget the point I'm making is that the cost of decent fishing is going to go through the roof - and that is out of your control. So it makes sense to spend less on ‘nice to have' gear and invest a bigger proportion of you budget on tickets.

I still buy second hand gear from ebay but it still has to be new and unused. I only paid £500 for two brand new century graphene carp rods and they are usually £550 each. They still had there tags on the rings. I also got a brand century spod rod with titanium rings for £120, the rings alone would of cost more than that so there are bargains to be had if you look.
