All you really need is a pult for very close in for ranges further than you can overhead lob them and an AirBomb for anything past what the el cheapo catty can't get to. The AirBombs are the nuts for a nice big spread and 15 or so quid well spent.
The only drawback with the AirBomb is if you're pulting out mixers when you've got them going on the top which can be negated if there's a slight breeze whereby you can cast upstream so to speak of them and let the mixers drift over their nuts.

So a £100 spod rod, a £70 spod reel, £15 of braid and a £15 airbomb is better value for baiting up close range than a £25 catapult?

In my opinion NO, in fact I would use the tried and tested ESP one any day, just get some spare elastics which inevitably let you down at some point. I am a big Jag fan but regret buying the so called One Pult kit. I just could not get use to it, bollies going everywhere other than where I wanted them. I even then spent more to make it work and bought the large pouch and orange heavy elastic, which to be fair helped with the bollie baiting but cost another £13 I think. I also find the pouch slips up the elastic so you need to correct that after each chuck. Could be me as others I'm sure are happy. Tip of the day, go in a shop and look before buying anything unless you are sure, something I use to do but then due to the pandemic just keep ordering on line based on the idea/company etc.
