That guy has misinterpreted what he has been told by the EA.
If the EA have confirmed that the Magic Twig falls foul of the angling bylaws in the Thames Water region then a private fishery cannot override that bylaw and allow its use.

If it has been confirmed by the EA as prohibited in a particular region, the decision to use it on a private basis would be moot. That part of what he says doesn't line up. Its not for individuals to determine when a regulation does or does not apply to them; they will have statutory power, unless, again, there's something in that or related regulations that caveats the restriction in some way. I haven't read the entire bylaw, just the pertinent section 4.
What would be truly important for this particular thread of discussion is having a very clear, legal and agreed definition of "hook a fish automatically" which is what the bylaw states and thus is the nub of this particular debate.
The words of the regulation are clear but we need to get to that understood definition first; what is the true meaning of that phrase. If this does hook automatically (and most of us know the smoke and mirrors into how it really can't) but if it is determined that it does, then it simply couldn't be permitted in that region (unless a regulatory caveat as mentioned above were to permit it). That wouldn't make sense though.

If you watch that video fish was already hooked therefore Ali will say it's not self hooking 😂😂😂 banned on both my syndicates and you will be if caught using it , in my opinion I can see it getting pulled from sale even accounting for the cost of production,

I would say that all the rigs used for carpfoshing, could be considered to “hook a fish automatically”, hence the fact you get a run, and not just a little movement tht you need to strike.

Leighton buzzard angling club have just officially banned it. Super weedy waters so a no brainer. We bought some to have a look at, and they really are a joke. Returned them for a refund. Browns angling have sold out

But the bye law doesnt mention a device does it? (Genuine question) I havent seen it, just going off this thread. And as said previosuly, this device is not for me, i dont agree with it, i can see the dangers. but there has to be some care taken around the arguments against it, we dont want to create an issue that has not previously existed. Maybe the bye law states a device and its a mute point, but something worth considering
