Why would it be a repellant?
It is insoluble in water
You also should know the density of TiO2 is near to 4 times the one of water. So, the more you add to your pop ups the less the floating properties

Have you used the Shilham mix?
Is it any good? Sounds like it gets its buoyancy solely from milks.

It won't be very buoyant then 😂 milk proteins only get you so far, most modern mixes are a combo of a buoyancy aid, binders to hold it is and light weight milks to produce the least dense bulk possible

I know this doesn't add to the answer, but a piece of cork or foam topping a boilie or wafter makes a simple popup, and can add a visual element too.
Do we sometimes get carried away overthinking it all? (I do love a popup myself too though

Toping a boilie will usually make a wafter, topping a wafter will usually make a pop up that with water ingress becomes a wafter.
Agreed for in the past but people put more metal work on their rigs than bobby george puts on his fingers.

i would say that if you start with a base mix you think that will catch a fish wrap it around a cork ball if you catch with it not only have you found a decent pop up but you have also found a freebie base mix to use as you now know that the fish like it simple really i would say
