Yes mate, i own and use them, and have done in some horrendous weather, so know they are decent from my own experience and not from the ramblings of an imaginary friend

I have a set of basia customs cost me £900 on finance,always wanted a set and I work many hours so treated myself and almost paid off now fantastic pair of reels to go with my Harris custom torrix yes they are 10' cork handles but don't worry about what people say as I fish for myself and not others.

I fish in Holland so most of my fellow Dutch anglers don't know what they're looking at, Daiwa isn't a popular brand here.

I'd personally wait for a set of old Shimano 10'000 mgs xsa or 10000 mgs xsb's to come up on the secondhand market ,there is so much bad press and reviews written about Daiwa reels ,you'd be a fool to even contemplate them

No they are not worth it I owned a set and sold them on to get my money back .they look beautiful but the equivalent of a Italian car . Shimano will win hands down every time it's what they do make gears they are the market leader in bikes as well

Paid £420 for 3rd Basia in May, respectfully disagree regarding current Shimano offer. If you want an exceptional reel & vfm, then the Penn Affinty 7000 is hard to beat. But imho Daiwa Basias are the DB's.

Nonsense argument. Shimano make gears for bikes out of completely different materials than reel internals and with a completely different purspose.
Daiwa make fishing reels..
I'll leave that with you, but both make some good stuff
