Well I got back from Rainbow yesterday, and even though the trip back was an absolute nightmare, spending 2 hours stuck in traffic on the M25, my experience at the lake was truly awesome.
I managed 7 fish, 4x40 2x50 and a 62, all commons, and all stunning fish that battled their socks of while I was playing them from the boat. Some at night in the pitch black, and some in really windy conditions out in the lake. For those who think that Rainbow is an easy place to fish, your in for a shock!
The lake was fishing proper moody. We had loads of rain and gale force winds, and when it wasn't doing that it went cold!
It seemed that the majority of the fish had moved through the swim into the deeper water of peg 19/18 and 17 just before we started fishing, with just a few stragglers coming out around the rest of the lake, although some of them being big ones.
The island is a mind blowing swim, probably 10 acres of water between 2 anglers. There are are so many spots to fish to, you could probably get away with twenty rods! you are fishing from a very small island, and i mean small, out in the middle of the lake, exposed to the wind. it's covered in roots, very difficult to get your bivvy pegs in, an impossible to get anywhere level,. most of the time you have big puddles in and around you bivvy, but other than that it's fine lol!
I'm preying that my pal invites my on one of his trips in the not to distant. I must have told him at least 20 times that if he is stuck for someone to fill a place I can go at the drop of a hat
Ironically on the morning that we packed up the sun came out, with just a few light showers and we even had a Rainbow over Rainbow

It really was mate, even though we did struggle and the conditions could have been better for us.
I'm just gagging to go back, Rainbow is awesome! I can see why so many people say that its the greatest lake in the world to fish.
I feel truly honored to have had the opportunity to fish such a magical place

Thought that it might be worth mentioning on here.
One thing that did spoil my trip slightly was that I had 15k of bait taken from the freezer while I was there.
I'm sure that it happened on the Friday/Saturday change over half way through our stay, whether somebody took it by mistake or it got stolen I don't know?
At the end of the day it didn't affect my trip, I wasn't catching a load of fish and I had plenty of bait in my swim for the rest of my time fishing. It's not a huge amount of bait and it certainly won't cost a fortune to buy some more, but if it was stolen it has broken the code of conduct, the golden rule that we anglers should be sticking to, we don't steal from each other do we?
I do know who it was now that I am home, and even though I have given him the opportunity to message me he hasn't been in touch yet to tell me that it was a mistake, so I am now assuming that he stole it so I am really looking forward to bumping into him next year, or if I don't get the chance to go, I will certainly be letting people know who he is.
I was told before I went that this happens so I set some little traps just in case. It took me a long time to calm down when it happened, I'm not a happy bunny when sh** like this happens to me, but there's an old saying 'every dog has his day'

it happens more often than you think...

Happened to me a few times in the last few years a good friend of mine had 30 kilo taken on his first week when he was there for two weeks.
I have my theories on it and why it goes on.

I'm sorry to hear that bud, what the **** is wrong with these *****
I was warned that it happens so I set a trap and caught somebody red handed. he won't be getting away with it one way or another trust me.
I've fished loads of times in France at venues with communal freezers for bait, this is the first time I have ever experienced this, and to be honest it's made me feel so sad that on probably what is considered to be the best carp lake in the world, anglers can't trust each other. I always thought that fishing was a great leveler with fishermen treating each other like family, BIG MISTAKE
If I get to go again, I won't be taking any chances that's for sure, something I hate doing but I will air dry and keep it in my swim, or put it in bags chained to the freezers, how bloody sad!
My pal is going to speak to Pascal and his sons Paul and Max about installing some proper CCTV in and around the clubhouse too

It happened when I was out there, not to me fortunately but everyone seemed to know who it was.
This fella seems to be notorious for it but nobody says anything.
