Anyone else been out there this summer?
I'm on with 4 others plus another group of 3 on the 22 October. Have been following the catch reports pretty closely.
Any poisson chat about or the Crays been worse than normal recently?

Fished a week in June, no probs with nuisance fish or Crays in any of the 2 swims I fished which were 2 and 13. I don't believe any of the other lads had any probs either

Nice one, thank you.
Nice one, thank you.
got back Saturday. had a great trip. all 8 anglers caught and had 23 fish between us (4 x 60lb+
)
the krays weren't bad but id still mesh up. what were becoming a nuisance though are the rudd. some of them are 2/3lb now and completely massacre the bait you put in. a couple of the lads caught them on carp gear or when dropping the rigs in!
next year i'll be taking bigger (20mm) baits and wont be chopping them at all.

Cheers for that, glad you posted, I was literally Just About to hit send on an order for a load of smaller baits for my trip.
Sounds like a good week

good luck Chris! (and others)
some of the rudd were huge. we had the odd fish for them and had them to 1-9. but there were a lot of 2s and even 3s swimming about!
I've got to wait until October next year now
good luck Chris! (and others)

That sounds like a good way to spend a bit of time. Il bring a float rod.
Good luck to you guys!

Spoke to my mates last night there are 3 of them there this week 1 is blanking 1 has had a couple both 30's and the other has had a few 50's,40's and 30's mostly through the night as it cools down a bit but generally it is a bit slow all over the lake with odd fish out to other anglers I'm sure it will get better moving into the second half of the week.

hi, due on Island Lake in a few weeks, just looking for some advice on boilie sizes. Reading the thread it would seem that it would be best to take, maybe 18s and 20s, We normally use 16s and 18s. Also hook sizes, given the average size of the fish in the lake I would feel that a size 4 would be about right. I normally uses 6s and haven't had too many issues dropping fish, and obviously its a personal choice, but maybe 6s a bit small for this lake ? any comments welcome. thanks.

Go for the larger bolies and hooks plus strong line too.
Have some hardened ones and mesh too, some pegs have a few crays knocking about, don't forget your MCF dumper lead clips, good & mandatory
Tight lines Chris

I took 16/18s. next year will be 18/20s. we had rudd take a 16mm pop up
i was using a mix of different size 4s mainly.
