iv had 20s when course and match fishing at places like bodington res and larford lakes! Not novice in fishing bud just not had the experience going for big carp!
yah just saying that if i want smaller carp id just carry on course/match fishing! And said holme fen because i like bigger waters not just because got monster carp

That is great advise one that I would equally advocate. And probably why I still have three sets as I'd get little for them if I sold a set.
My initial intention was to offer alternative possibilities for the op to consider. There isn't a one size fits all in this life.

I wasn't suggesting 20lb fish as small fry, I still love catching tench. I'd treat all fish with the same respect as I'm sure we all do. I'll always remember hearing on the grape vine during the 80s that Nash unfortunately dropped a 40lb sadly, from that equipment developed. One of the first items I purchased as a kid was a decent unhooking mat.

To be fair 99% of people on here are great. We have different views at times which is healthy.

Not really. I'm a sarcastic **** and I often say what I think which upsets people.
The fact remains that buying high end gear when you don't know why or what aspect of carp fishing you prefer can be a costly mistake. Nobody wants to waste money, least of all those who have worked hard to earn it

Good I'm pleased we are both part of the 1% group.
I'm not advocating the op wastes money I think you can cut the learning experience and faffing about moving up the scale of equipment. To me there are benefits from both approaches. I do think getting casting lessons would be money well spent and allow the Op to experience a few different rods.
