Anyway, anybody know how the bottle floats are used on rainbow these days, looks like it may have changed since the last time I was there, and I think that Mr Koypoo ate most of the ones I made, Avid make em now?

They're pretty self explanatory they come with the line stops and rubber beads for either side of the clip on float but I do shorten the elastic on the bottle as I find it about twice the length of what is needed.

I use the following.

50lb braid.
45lb mono leader
45lb leadless leadcore leader.
25lb Jelleywire hooklink
size 8 swivels
size 2/4 hooks.
15 & 18mm baits.
4, 6, 8, 10 and 12oz leads

Some of the line/leader materials being used down there now are absolutely ridiculous.

I have been doing a bit of research, a lot of it does sound a tad OTT to me.

I made the joke about a bigger boat in the film Jaws as a joke but some anglers are actually using the heavy gear at Rainbow, for carp!!!

It certainly wasn't like that on my previous trips🤔🤔

You know when you get that feeling that a thread is starting to drift into the gutter.

And you realize that some people on here just don't seem to want a sensible conversation about a subject.

I love a bit of banter myself, but then I also like to be serious at time as well

Hay ho, it takes all sorts but bassets make the best

To get it back on track again... It also depends on the peg you in. Some people still cast and land fish to the bank on Rainbow, and last or before last capture of the Scarface(biggest in the lake) was after casting the rig out.

On the other hand,if you fish snaggy peg(most of them) then tackle that was mentioned is required.

If you need any more info I will do my best,to point you in the right direction

Cheers for that mate, to be honest I think that I have got it sussed now, the island peg is knit one pearl one on the left side, especially the one down the Chocolate box channel, and the right has quite a few open water spots. Hope to be on that side!

I spoke to my buddy who I am going with and he said that Pascal has messed up with the dates, he now starts fishing on the Saturday before I go and his other mate can't make it, so just to help him out lol, I am going to be there for two and a half weeks

If I am on the left I will use some of the more beefed up gear, but at the end of the day it's down to my pal which side I am on because it is his trip

Does anybody know which of the bigger fish have now died in Rainbow now?

I never ever imagine that I am going to be lucky enough to catch one of the big uns, but you never know.

I read an article in an old Carp World that I found about Martin Locke catching The Steve Briggs fish, what an awesome read, but I think that that fish may be dead now?

It's really starting to sink in just how lucky I am that this trip to Rainbow has come my way, It's a very special place and I am feeling so honored to be asked, I have heard stories of lads who try for ages to get the chance, I am so grateful l to my mate for asking me, he has been going for years building up a good relationship with Pascal the owner, I had no idea.

He's my best friend now, just in case I get asked to go again

Practically all of them from the era of fish you would of fished for when you last fished the place but plenty more that have come through the ranks.

Thanks for the reply,

That makes sense, French fish do seem to grow big and not live so long like over here in the UK

Somebody told me that there is a big fish called Scar now, and a common that has been named Mr Taylor, after the great Alan Taylor. but other than that I wasn't sure wether there are any others or any of the other named fish were still about.

I leave for Rainbow first thing in the morning so thanks everyone for all your input. Hopefully I will catch a few while I am there
