But where is the greed coming from? Is it the owners? Or is it the fans who probably yearn to be challenging city??

Players wages and agent fees are killing it as well as the greedy owners.

Owners, agents and arguably some of the players. As regards to yearning to challenge Man City, I've no idea. Ask a Utd fan.

Of course the fans have a big part to play in it, they've seen their 2 biggest rivals win the league in recent seasons, and naturally they want in, and turn on the owners, yes they have taken money out the club, but they've also stumped up huge amounts in players transfers and wages.
I have zero sympathy if I'm honest, look at some of the smaller clubs who have gone bust like Bury, or others that have gone into administration because of the owners, then deducted points because of it, now they are because of bad owners.

Had a similar scenario at West Ham, fans on the pitch, board out etc, etc.
They sold our ground to a house builder and pocketed the money which I'm sure you will agree was a fairly good reason to be upset.
I bought season tickets for the new ground and went twice, hated it and doubt I'll ever go back.
Football is obviously now a huge business and I think at the top end the romantic idea that protesting will change things is fairly naive.
Just imagine if the owners of one of these clubs looked at the finances, and thought if we sell all of our best players cash up everything else we can and walk away with a nice profit what would fans be thinking then ?
I can remember watching a documentary about Blackburn winning the league, a fantastic achievement funded by jack walkers millions, that season 98% of their turnover was spent on players wages, brilliant for the fans but totally unsustainable.
What we have today is Blackburn on steroids, mega wealthy foreign businessmen are not here for any other reason than to earn as much money as possible and a few pissed up lads are not going to change that, I do wonder if there would have been more demonstrations had the weather been a bit better 🤓

The thing is everyone is branding about this german initiative, where the fans own 51% of the club, which is fine, but if you want to go down that route, you'll have to find fans willing to stump up close to 2 billion quid, then stump up money for transfers and wages, at a guess that wont happen

it's all farcical and hypocritical. see the earlier sensible arguments from 'Mal'...
seriously though I'm fed up of the pish. Those 'fans' who were kicking police officers won't be putting their hands in their pockets to own 51% of the debt at Man Utd, let alone the total value of the club. They don't feckin complain when the Glazers business acumen means they can afford to buy Pogba for £90 million and pay him £300,000 per week - and Gary Neville talks about them creating a 'famine' in football - I don't see many people starving on £300 grand a week, do you?
None of the Premier league clubs, or the Premier League, or the FA stepped in to protect Bury, or Wigan or Bolton. They care as much for the 'football pyramid' as the Glazers et al
I don't like the idea of a closed shop competition, but I think it will only be a few years before the likes of Perez and co are saying 'we told you so' to more and more clubs who are struggling.
with player wages accounting for 140% of the total turnover in the Football league, you don't need a Harvard business degree to see that it's unsustainable

The issue is and always has been the leveraged buy out by the Glazier's, it's rumbled on for 15 years not just the last few weeks. What could the club of achieved with an extra £1 billion in the pot instead of that billion going to banks in interest payments during the Glazier's ownership? Maybe helped out a Wigan/Bury/Macc etc.
As Man United are the real daddy of english football all you fans of small clubs should be behind the best fans in the world instead of letting jealousy get in the way of your views.

Magoo I was chatting to a fella at work, never met him before and we got talking footy, he said he was 37 years a season ticket holder at yours and hasn't been since they sold the Bolynne and went to the London stadium.
As for greed and players wages etc, just to put it into perspective, City are giving KDB 350k a week, when the crowds are allowed back in 6000 punters paying the City average ticket price of £58 will just about cover his wages

I dont think others are jealous because utd haven't had another billion to spend on players. I can only assume the utd fans have been busy protesting when they were winning leagues and cups whilst under the glazier management??
