Because I'm a 99% day angler I rarely use a marker and can't remember the last time I did during the session, but I will sometimes use it before packing up if I've had fish off an open water spot, to see if there was any obvious reason.

Also agree to an extent regards depths and why getting over this way of thinking is helpful, Mr Crabtree told us where they should feed and sometimes it takes us longer to work out they will be where they are on a particular day for no apparent reason.
