The only saving grace for many of us is that we more than likely already have most if not all of our kit. I appreciate that people want to upgrade but that might have to wait if other things like gas and electric bills are trebling.
The concern I have is prices are fast to go up and very slow to come down - if at all and what we are seeing now may get worse not better.

i've heard it called the crapification of goods and services, it runs through everything these days mate, from using poorer quality materials and leaving the price the same or even increasing them, right through to crap customer service and everything else in between, everything gets cut to the bone in the pursuit of profits

A fairly decent wage five years ago isn't enough to live on these days, especially in the south east.
I pay £1450 in rent before utilities and thats a tiny one bed flat in brighton, moving to a two bed house 8 miles away for 200 less but that'll probably be eaten up by utilities.
All the flats and small houses are bought up by land lords or used for council so getting a mortgage is a pipe dream at the moment, even though I feel lucky earning what I do.
I have no idea how youngsters are going to be able to afford to get into fishing especially carp fishing. I recently bought a whip, some pole rigs and bits and pieces to take my nephew with me on day sessions, 100quid!
With everything going up a lot of people wont be able to afford to set there kids up to fish.
When I grew up the head bailiff down my local pond used to lend kids gear, there was always some method feeders and wagglers set up on rods, he'd take two tins of meat out his wage packet and use a mm cutter and divide it among about ten little drinks pots with cling film over them.
I think he'd be rolling in his grave looking at the state of thing now bless his kind heart.
I'm going to speak to a friend at the angling trust, see if theres any sort of initiative that could be done to lend gear to fisheries

I agree what you say it's a bit like the 70s wake up to find your petrol cap on the floor someone's taken your petrol or your car up on bricks wheels gone best to buy second hand tackle if you can
and if these people who think it's great to pay these ridiculous prices stop buying the price will be driven down then it would be a case of drop the price or have a warehouse full this £1000.00 for a bivvy it's absolutely ridiculous there laughing all the way to the bank

I agree with all the price increases, but I don't think we have ever had cheaper decent budget tackle available...you don't have to spend a fortune to go and catch carp, carp anglers problems is we all like things in either double or triple quantity..I.e a 2 or 3 rod set up.
you can go and catch carp with 1 rod,a net,unhooking mat, carp care kit and minimum terminal gear,add a can of corn and your away.
it gets expensive when you replicate 3 rods,reels,matching net,then you've got 3 x the amount of everything...we can be our own worse enemy's at times.

One rod, proper carp fishimg and my favourite way to catch them, nice and light with hardly any gear. That was the reason i stopped carp fishing in the first place as found it a total pain in the ass the amount of gear i used to take. I barbel fish now and that is going the same way with the amount of gear and i can see me getting bored with that as well as hate all the prep and gear i need now.

That approach is good for very well stocked waters and for sh that are catchable within casting range, it all changes once you want to get away from the madness that comes with fishing well stocked waters, then you need more rods to increase your chancy with less fish about; all depends of size of water mind.
If you're e only a handful it f fish to go for on some of these it waters - whatever big means to you - you could sell be pissing in the wind with your one rod approach..

i agree,but I was thinking more of someone getting into the sport rather someone more advanced to tackle (no pun intended) more difficult waters

I feel exactly the same with one difference I still carp fish and barbel fish so I got 2 lots of gear to think about it's driving me mad all the bits a pieces I need if they would do away with this 3 month close season I might just fish the rivers

It's not just fishing that's gone mad price wise, the price of bikes and bike parts is even more crazy.
Especially electric bikes, a decent one will cost you as much as a car.

Different species anyway. GT's will grab a fizzy drink ring pull, try that on one rod on a hair rig for carps....ya feel me?

👍🏻 Give me a river any day over a carp lake. There are some huge carp and cat fish in the trent at a1 pits probably washed in from the carp lakes in the floods. Still yet to catch one mind. There supposedly big sturgeon in there as well so you never know what you might catch which really adds to the excitement.
