Hi Dickweed,

Thanks for that. The version I posted is the latest that he published and obviously changed it for what I would assume, he thought was for the better.

BB.

no problem folks,

same here really, I cant be bothered to roll any more. It was easy pre-kids when I could guarantee rolling bait and fishing time.

I do recall reading an in one of the carp mags in WHSmiths a while after Pete gave me the recipe. I am sure the article was by Pete B and was volume of ingredients had slightly different proportions.

I'm sure Pete did a little series in Carp Addict on bait, that covered the mix.

Thanks BB. I might try and source some ingredients after all this Coronavirus is done with and give it a go. I intend to fish a water with a lot of crayfish over the coming seasons and didn't want to be feeding them by John baker basemix at 15 quid a kilo. But this may do just fine

I wouldn't. The Crays will batter this mix. It's soft and soluble. Not the one at all for cray infested waters.

You might want to add something like a healthy dose of blood plasma and egg albumin.

Hi Capt.

Blood plasma is the binder to use. It's like caster sugar, and very user friendly.

For some reason I thought plasma made it more soluble, powder for hardening

Am I right in thinking using the plasma would change the colour? If so what about making some harder hook baits to keep with in the same colour of the free offerings. Would air drying be ok or add some egg albumen on it's own and if so at what amount would you recommend please?

Hi New Carper,

Plasma won't change the colour, but it's not the best to use for harder hookbaits. I use plasma to make paste bait and it binds it perfectly but remains soft and pliable.
I'm not that clued up on making hard hookbaits and perhaps someone who is, will post, but I think it might be best to use whey gel in conjunction with egg albumin at about 10% of each?

blood powder can do the trick, but also egg albumine or a combo!

Look away bait buffs 😜
Just boil your hookbaits longer ,which will harden them , then wrap your hookbait in paste .
And yes it works very well .
