Theres a few agricultural drainage ditches and the spring that feeds the lake, that is it.
We initially thought that someone had put them there

On the canal there were a few ducks infact I saw 2 ducks and a Canadian goose when I was there plus the occasional heron

If the drainage ditches are attached to any other main watercourse, at any time of the year, the otters will eventually find you. Once they have found you once, that's it. Just by travelling across land they leave a scent, which another otter will detect months afterwards.
Remarkable creatures really.
