Canon 28mm f1.8 is what I use for fishing. Image quality is superb and the lens is excellent in low light. On an APS-C format DSLR it provides an equivalent focal length of 45mm, making it a useful 'standard' lens. Frankly, for taking pictures of fish and general bankside photography it's perfect. Quite light and compact as well.
As to smart phones. To say they're night and day not on a par with cameras is frankly crap. I do use my iPhone 14 Pro when fishing (mainly the video), which is as good if not better than most cameras, but it's still not quite able to compete with a good prime lens on a modern semi-pro DLSR., like my 90D. Also, factor in the muppet taking the picture - give most people a DLSR and they'll **** up your pictures - hand them your phone and you're in with a chance.
