I understand from a reliable source that the weed present in the lake last summer made many of the swims unfishable at times. With boats not being permitted for landing fish, I can imagine the weed could have a dramatic affect on customer experience.....

Agree, On really weedy/snaggy lakes boats are essential not only to help land fish but also for fish safety. It could be something to do with having to have insurance to allow the use of boats on the lake, can be mightily expensive

I have my lake insurance through our Angling Trust membership, which is cheap and allows the use of boats. Can't imagine that insurance is the reason to not allow boats?

Spot on Chris. I was a member of the syndicate that the lease holder disbanded to change over to the new, exclusive booking arrangement and the weed in the summer gets really bad. So bad that it's almost impossible to fish even with using a boat.
A couple of people have asked for a bit more info on the lake and fish, what would you like to know?

Hi MrJ,
It's good to have some first hand information about the place.
It's near where I used to live, could be good for a social with a few mates.
The big fully scaled is a fantastic looking carp, how do the 50s and 40s compare? Are they good looking too?
Do a good range of takeaways deliver to the gate?

The Fully is a good looking fish Jon, freak of nature though and there's nothing else in there anywhere near that big.
Certainly no 40s or 50s, I'd say the next biggest is around mid 30. There was an upper 30 common but that was one of the ones that was ottered. Remains to be seen how many others were lost...
No idea about takeaways I'm afraid but can't see why the ones in Romsey wouldn't deliver to the gate. There are no facilities at the lake except for a compost toilet, not even any water so anyone booked on would have to go into town anyway.
