I've got 3lb 9ft scopes and I can easily cast 100 yards with them with a 2.5oz lead. Getting distance on your cast is more about technique than equipment.
Really rate the scopes, much prefer them to my 12ft rods (Wychwood C-201 and Fox Warrior S). There are a couple of things that having the extra 3 feet is useful for (eg: mending line floater fish, or when fishing over vegetation), but I don't find casting too be one of them. At least not for any of the fishing I do.
