Ive got alps fittings on my century stealth graphenes and they are ok but prefer the free spirit hi s clone reel seat. Have a look at century as well as they make some cracking rods.

Got to agree , I had a set of free spirits made with alps seats , hated them and got the clones fitted

think theres a place in chesire called HL or HT tackle who sell century! only other place is johnson ross and they like 3-4 hours from me in midlands

Why is it, I suggested casting lessons and then going and trying rods out.
The op wanted to look at infinities and Harrison he might prefer Free Spirit or Century.
Besides it's another ‘option' to consider.
Buying second hand is another sensible option.

Surely you're on a wind up? A beginner who doesn't know if they even like carp fishing and you're suggeting they get custom rods?! A cheap set of shop bought rods would surely be a wiser choice to begin with. No?

it's best that he buys the rods he fancies otherwise he be selling losing money on cheaper rods that's if you can sell them maybe as said better option is to buy top rods second hand then if he decides after a while that he doesn't want to do carping then he could sell up and probably get his money back not just rods that's my advice for all his gear and also won't have to wait for rods to be built

But also says he doesn't know much... Buying by price tag almost. Do you honestly believe that a beginner should go and drop a grand on custom rods without even knowing if they like the sport? And then to go with a grands worth of top rod, spends a couple more k on reels, 700 on alarms, a grand on a bivvy etc?? Before you know it that's 10 grand gone on a sport which you may not even like! It makes no sense when you can get a perfectly good setup for a few hundred quid to test the waters so to speak.
