Lets have some comments from people who have actually had food/boilies etc confiscated ie by French or British customs, way out or way back, on the train or ferry, because apparently skips are being filled daily.

I think that the fact Oldfellah is a lake owner in France he is providing a fair assessment of what is going on and not trying to scaremonger so that anglers buy his baits rather than risk having theirs confiscated.

Given that everyone crossing the channel is at the mercy of French customs officials as to whether or not they'll turn a blind eye to those importing bait illegally, maybe a few key phrases wouldn't go amiss ..

Bonjour officier, ravi de vous rencontrer.
Good morning officer, pleased to meet you.

Bien sûr que votre chien peut renifler mes boilies..
Of course your dog can sniff my balls..

.. mais je préférerais que tu ne les touche pas.
.. but I'd rather you didn't touch them.

Merci beaucoup pour votre gentillesse de ne pas gâcher mes vacances
Thank you very much for your kindness in not ruining my holiday.

ouais, je sais qu'ils ont dit que les Britanniques « reprendraient le contrôle ».
Yeah, I know they said the British would "take back control".

So the English customs asked you if you had bait? any type or specifically boilies? Was this train or ferry?

You see behind all the political bluster, if the french suddenly started having to root through every carp anglers cars, and began confiscating bait en mass, they would be expending time and money aswell as paying a small fortune to dispose of skip loads of rotting carp bait, which would undoubtedly stink like **** while its hanging about.

I can well imagine the mindset across the channel being crack on.

Yeah but then you'll have folks that can't pay a fine on the spot and they have to chase, the people that still get caught out ignorant to the rules, the people that chance their arm, the french will still get caught up in a **** load of unnecessary "administration" which is a lot of hassle.

Far easier, to wave you on which seems to be what's happening
