Parts and servicing will be the same as any modern Shimano or daiwa at worst, ie not a lot. Having owned the Penn's and now having the 45 for the reels you are considering, I know what the better reel is. And if I'd not made a balls up and ordered the reel seats too small on my rods, I'd still be using them.

Shimano parts I find are very easy to source, Daiwa not so. Servicing I do myself, well apart from my stupid mag sealed Castizms, which I gave up on and have now sent off to be sorted out. The Penn was more expensive from memory, but yeah, totally unfounded decision, but I just didn't like the look and feel of them. I've used Penn multipliers, which were very decent.

You might find them easy for current models, or the old models. But wait until the latest offerings which are replaced every year or 2 need parts. Bet you'll struggle then

Glenn...Currently have these reels with FAF Customz as they have said they have done this modification on other reels. I am getting the line guard modified. Basically line guard is removed and they are replacing with the rubber guards that go in the recess where the line guard would move up and down. I have been told will get them back before next weekend so ill test and let you know the outcome

Line guards are great with emblem and tournies the only mechanism that actually works however you will still have to manage line the skirt based guides such as the Shimarno (all of them) and the likes of the ISO and Linear X are poor. It is user error imo these 35s look extremely poor due to the tapered fall back which I can only think would make matters worse.

Glenn, reels received, to be put in use saturday...what i would say is the rubber resting on spool lip does create some extras noises.. like having tournies again
but i can live with that , if you want any pics in case your interested DM me

Just to say I decided to pass on the 35 SCW - I'm seeing a lot of negative feedback and also for other Daiwa reels that are in their current line up - and that's across several forums, not just on here. I'll be fishing open bail, so if there's issues with line getting behind the spool, it'll be a big problem for me when pike fishing. I'd add that you shouldn't have to modify reels to make them do what they should do out of the box. All I want is three big pits for pike fishing that I can leave on the rods - meaning I don't have to keep swapping out my Basias from my distance carp rods.
A mate is lending me his Shimano Ultegra 14000 XTD's at the weekend, I'll see if they're any good. At this rate, I might just use my Basias for pike fishing and be done with it.

the basia doesn't have any line guard system, cant imagine using them is a good idea. okumas could be an option for you
only reason I got put off okuma is the servicing guys who basically said the internals are crap. guess it depends what your looking for quality wise.

The line guard makes them perfect for what you want.
The spod is a bit fast (gearing) but still capable and available new.
I'd get some used emblem s or x
