Never had the Basiair but the 20 scw feels more robust than the other two basia I tried and sold.The sld was nicer than the 19scw but the 20scw is better again imo.

Fox have got a cheek if that's the case. Their reel internals are made of monkey metal lol. Don't think there is much betwen daiwa and shimano , personal preference. My 35 scw emblems are great apart from line occasionally going behind line guard. I think the more affordable daiwa and shimano still better than any other companies.

Don't agree with that,Penn affinity are better than the cheaper shimano and daiwa.I have Daiwa basia 20 scw and the castizm 25 qda on my 10fts,if I was starting up again I would have penn affinity 7000ltd on my distance set up and okuma 6000 on my 10fts and have a grand in my pocket

100% true regards the Penn's, better than anything Shimano or daiwa have on offer at that price, or even double it

Do you reckon it's been improved at all?
I waited so long for the original to prove itself they discontinued it.. that put me off any later models in case they too get discontinued and I needed a part. They've also crept up in price

The 20's are mag sealed and feel stronger to me,they are super smooth.If they perform as good as my castizms I will be extremely happy,I can now get my magseals serviced locally so I'm not worried if any issues.

The only thing they changed was the main shaft inside,the rep told me the original suffered with a bit of flex.It only happened when fully extended and under heavy load but it was enough for penn to change it.Im not sure if they eventually did change anything else on them,the company that do the UK spares for Penn are superb too.My mate had a drag cap that lost its click,they sent him two free of charge

I've not seen the latest ones noj so couldn't comment on that. There wasn't much difference between the first 2 models. I know the carbon ones are quite a lot more expensive than the older models . I'd be surprised if they werent decent though .
