Because the bloke I know in the tackle shop said the Speedmaster is a fantastic reel with great line lay nice slow wrap, which then led onto people suggesting it's worth paying extra for the ci4's though

It may well be a good reel, but at that price range there are quite a few good reels. You are fishing for carp, not sharks so there's no need to be spending over £200 per reel. Some of the money people spend is way ott, if you want to then great, but it really isn't necessary

Which are you leaning more towards,I spend stupid money on reels and have had alot of the top end models.Are they worth the money?not a chance but I like nice things and look after my gear.If I was starting out again I would probably save a fortune and go for Penn 7000ltd on distance set up and Okuma 6000 I think they are on my 10fts and have probably well over a grand in my back pocket

Not the liveliner,the 7000ltd if you shop around you can get them cheaper than that.They do one with carbon trim and handle on it if want something a bit fancy

Stock of many reels is a big problem and has been for some time.......
I recently picked up the Ci4 14k's and it was a struggle, as soon as their in stock their sold... so, don't hold on too long else you'll lose out and as other have said it's largely a sellers market as well atm.

I had pretty much decided on buying the Ci4+ 14000 XTC but went into the tackle shop to have a final look at them and the young bloke in there was saying why bother with getting a 14000 spool just buy the Ci4+ 5500 XTC if i dont do loads of distance fishing. Or even buy the Ultegra 5500 XTD that are cheaper and upgrade the washers to give it a quicker front drag?

I bought mine from Bobco. Like you & others have rightly mentioned, there do seem to be stock issues. I know I spent way more time than I probably should searching and checking prices etc. and signing up to stock alerts!

are you pleased you went with the 14000's and not the 5500's? Do you use them for alot of distance fishing?

I got some 5500 ci4s in February for £200 each brand new from a well known tackle shop after speaking to them on the phone, was very happy with the price and since they seemed to have shot up in price.
I'm very happy with them aswell so smooth and light, I love mine I did have 14000 before these and Lucy prefer these I only fish upto 100/120 yards at the most so these are perfect for that

Yeah, I'm really happy with them. I've actually used them exclusively since getting them, on different sets of rods covering both short & longer range. Which I wasn't planning on doing as I bought them as a second set for my distance rods. In terms of my choice between the sizes, my club waters require a certain bs & diameter of mono, plus there's a leader ban (like many others) so I specifically wanted the larger model.
But, like everything, it's a personal choice and what works for me may not suit everyone. For various reasons (size, weight, cost etc.). As long as whatever you use works for you and your angling situation, that's all that matters.
