Congratulations to the ***** that put it in the public domain, what a great picture it paints of our hobby, as far as the anti's go it's Gold dust even if it is a sad accident.

It was a Facebook Live thing so it was immediately in the public domain for all to watch as things unfolded and although taken down very quickly it was out there. Evidently it was with the chap who runs the fishery within minutes....

That's really not nice to watch. Feel for that guy aswell. Looks like a horrible accident. Looks like a padded Mat so no cradle bars to damage the fish. Can't stop seeing it in my head 😩

I reckon it should 100% be shown, no point burying heads in the sand. That happened because the mat was too small and the wrong shape. Not a dig personally at the angler, but what is considered ‘safe' is obviously not fit for purpose.
It gives a worse image to non anglers when things like this are suppressed. “Yeah tails fall off and fish get broken ribs etc. but not a lot and we are kind enough not to show it”

See that's it Noj, I agree that there's no point burying heads in sand but whilst the incident was a freak accident it wasn't "unlucky"......it was 100% avoidable for a number of reasons which will no doubt come out and the angler will be hung, drawn and quartered by all and sundry on social media
Nothing good comes out of the video being shared wide and far apart from Carp anglers being depicted as a bunch of careless idiots.....ok, you could say that it highlights the importance of fish care but with a 54lb Carp probably already dead which was completely avoidable it's a bit late for that!
I'm not going to throw the guy to the wolves, we have all had fish flip, fall on the mat and slide off it so in that respect it was completely bad luck and there for the grace of God go us all...

Just saying that then this certain incident could have been avoided, it could of happened to anyone yep but if they had stuck to the rules would have all been ok. Surely he could see that a fish of 50lb plus thrashing around in a small mat like that was no good. And also there is more than meets the eye

It's every fish over 40 that needs to remain in the water, plus you can only retain fish for a maximum of 15 minutes whilst you get the camera gear etc sorted.....

Agree mate, not the angler's fault. He was just following the accepted procedure.
Do we think this would be less likely back in the day on long grass or a flat mat? Because it looks like the mat was too small and a poor design for big fish which bent the tail back as the fish fell off centre and kicked. A cradle or cot mat is a poor design in any size for anything other than what it's name suggests... an unhooking mat

This is damage to a business asset really, because nobody deep down gives a **** about the fish except a photo of it at 50+ if we're honest. Otherwise they'd have admired it in it's own environment rather than stand around laughing in it's face and picking it up while it slowly suffocates. Sorry, but when we exchange money to angle for fish put into a lake for the sole purpose of being caught time and again, we don't have a leg to stand on morally.

Bloody hell, never seen anything like that ever. That has to be a million to one shot of that happening again.
Hopefully the bloke doesnt get smashed up on the web, although knowing what it's like he'll probably will be.
