We looked at cars of a similar size including the evoque. We settled on the Mercedes GLC. Perfect size, reasonable service and parts costs, great size boot and leg room in the back, lots of features for your money.
Can't recommend it enough, even the 2L we have, absolutely rapid and a joy to drive.

If you want a reliable 2nd hand motor you might want to look at the link above...... Best get an extensive warranty for the whole length of time your intending to own ANY land Rover and the German brands are not far behind in the poor reliability list. This could save you a lot of money....
I'm not saying don't buy them as they look great, just be careful and get yourself covered.
I have had a few German motors, the last 5 series I had needed nearly £8k of non wear and tear repairs in 3 years covered by a warranty for all the unexpected failures both mechanical and electrical. The car had a full dealer history, was seviced before it needed it every time and was low mileage and was not driven hard.

My C220 spent 3 months of the 2 years i Owned it in the garage, Skoda Kodiaq on the other hand, absolutely faultless.

Our friend swapped her X5 for an Evoque and has regretted it ever since.
The Evoque feels too low inside for her.
Personally i'd go for a Disco Sport if its not too large for you. Boot space is deceptively large and the driving position is better as well.
My brother has one and is very pleased with it.
Another friend has the Mercedes GLC and rates it highly though I thought it was overpriced.
