The chances are when its moulded that it will have the colour mixed with main plastic granules, this means its runs all the way through rather than just on the outside, hard to tell from just the one picture. The only thing I can reccomend would be to send it down thinner, but obviously then it wont be as strong

Thanks for the reply, yes it does look like the colour runs all the way through it rather than it being a coating.
How would I go about sanding it down, what grades of paper etc. Get it wrong and I could end up with scratched plastic

By hand, but it's a difficult shape, and will take ages, plus you wont get the same surface finish.

The only bit that needs to be done is the almost triangular bit to the right of the buttons which is reasonably flat, the perimeter and the rest of it are hidden behind a fascia.

If you want to see the lights then personally I would drill a couple of small holes, and then cover them with some small clear bungs, wont look quite as good though

I know I said LED's earlier but there's more to it. Every grey bit inside the triangle is capable of lighting up

That triangle looks like it will push out somehow, how is it fixed from behind?
Would've thought you could carefully shape some Perspex to replace it

Unfortunately it's all one piece and can't be separated. I could cut it out but they won't be until I've tried a few other things first

Looks like it's grooved around the outline which would help in keeping it neat and tidy. Pointed nails and keep going around the outline and should end up neat. Insert very thin piece of clear plastic after.
Edit - Wouldn't even need plastic. Put a piece of clear celotape in.
