Thanks, i thought they were very similar. The price for both is identicle, so i will probably go with the free braid version and give it a shot, as i dont see what i would need the extra spool for.

Unless of course this reel would be suitable as a normal carp fishing reel? I'm thinking it is going to be too big and bulky for that, but if somone can advise me otherwise, i might take the 2 spool version and put braid on one for spodding, and normal nylon line on the other for normal fishing.

That's a decent rod, I have one. I don't use it much but have found that medium sized spomb or spods better than large ones for long range though, large ones don't fly as well when casting hard

Funnily enough, I had a medium turn up yesterday going off real life tests from the Mark guy at Shimano.
I filled it up to the brim with crummed bait and it left me thinking, like this little thing? Bods have been banging them out at 200yds plus. Jesus

Yeah they fly really well, it's quite surprising. Although I'd do prefer the dot spod over the spomb ,just because it's easier to load

So the shop called me this morning to inform me the Sonic VaderX Spod Rod was damaged in transit and they could not supply it. Its a bit iffy, nonetheless they offered me the Shimano TX 12f 5lb spod rod at 30% discount as way of an appology, so i have gone for that.
So i am still deciding on the reel. I might still go for the Sonic VaderX 8000 RS spod reel, but i am now also considering the Shimano BeastMaster XB 10000.
Does anyone know if the Shimano BeastMaster XB 10000 would be a good spod reel, and if it might be a better choice than the Sonic? I can get both at the same price.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

I ended up buying the Sonic Vaderx RS8000 reel. Just arrived today, its a beast. By far the heaviest reel I have owned, it must weigh around 1kg. It looks good, but it could possibly get tiring after some repeated casting, given its weight.
I am used to reels showing how much line capacity the spool can take. There is zero indication of what this reel spool capacity is, which is a bit of a bummer. I'm planning to purchase 150m of Daiwa J Braid, now I have to somehow figure out how much nylon backing to put on first, before adding the braid, so the reel is filled out properly. If anyone has any bright ideas how best to do this, do let me know.

It comes with a spare spool.
Wind your braid on first, tie your backing to it then wind until the spool is full.
Put spare spool on then wind it all back on that spool, bingo, the braid is on top.

Nash Braided Shock Leader 50lb
- attach 6 meters of shock leader to mainline using double grinner knot.
Does that look about right?
