I've also got the free spirit ctx spomb rod think it's brilliant I'm well happy with it, best spomb rod I've owned and I've had a few (shimano one blew up on a cast)

I asked this question to free spirit when they first launched the spomb rod, apparently the action of the rod is designed specifically to stabilise the spomb at the point of release, meaning it flies further and truer. How much truth is in that I dont know.
