Rich that's a bit harsh, as I'm pretty sure you don't know what he does for a living. I'm a self employed worker. I'm following the guidelines issued by the government and my trade associations to the letter. Continuing to work at present for me does not make me an ignorant fool.
Currently the advice from government, and I've literally just seen it restated in a live broadcast on sky is this
1. Businesses should not be asking people to come to work if they have symptoms or if someone in their house has symptoms.
2. Businesses should be supporting people to work from home where ever possible.
There is currently no blanket ban on either leaving your home, or going to work in this country. I am a boiler repair engineer. My sector of the industry was yesterday added to the list of keyworkers. Here is a direct quote from one of my trade associates
“ The government has classified plumbing and heating professionals as ‘Key Workers' and as such the children of plumbing and heating workers will be prioritised for education provision.
CEO John Thompson says the APCH had been discussing with the government the possibility of assigning Key Worker status to plumbing and heating contractors and fully welcomes this action.
“I'm glad the government recognises the essential frontline work that plumbing and heating professionals carry out and the direct role they play in keeping society healthy, warm and safe,” says John Thompson. “If plumbers and heating engineers weren't allowed into properties or attend sites to fix breakages, this could have led dangerous heating systems and unsafe drinking-water and sanitation facilities.”
So I'm my case, being self employed and continuing to work is within the governments advice. No one in my house has any symptoms. I've not been in any houses where anyone has had symptoms. I telephone every customer prior to attending. I wear disposable gloves in every property. I have a tub of strong disinfectant made up In my van. Even though I'm wearing gloves I wash my hands with this solution. So please leave the ignorant fool comments out. A lot of us are doing jobs where people need us to attend, the self employed bit isn't important. I will keep doing my job until Im told by the government to stop. At a time where the advice to everyone is wash your hands with soap and water, your gonna have a job doing that if your boiler has packed up aren't you.

cant see why closing a business that has mass gatherings of public on site is even an issue at moment,its human lives at steak ,there jobs ,homes,families ,its only carp fishing after all ..well done the people who run the place great decision.

It's his attitude that really stinks....going fishing isn't safe, people arent taking it serious. These lakes like farlows and tackle shops saying they've taken all precautions is bull ****, only the money that concerns them. Our NHS staff are saying stay at home for a reason. My wife is on the front line she is currently at work now looking after sick patients with coved-19 and I am here every night when she comes home in bits so I can see what it's doing to people. I have to lie to her every day and tell her that everything is going to be ok. When really I no it's not but life can not stop. I have to stay strong to support her and the kids. At some point we are all going to get it. Could be tomorrow, next week next month or next year but we are all going to get it at some point

My wife is also a nurse, and is dealing with the risks on a unprecedented scale, however i'd be an absolute tool to take myself of fishing and leave her at home with kids. I honestly couldn't think of anything more selfish total t##t

How is that ignorant? I have no choice but to go to work like I said I'm self employed with bills mortgage to pay. no work, no penny's. So me going fishing is not exactly going to change anything. The government are only saying social distance your self. They are also saying 80% of us are going to get this virus in some way. All we are trying to do is slow it down to put less stress on the nhs. So you keyboard warriors Call me what you like. Until I get told I can't go out I will carry on as I like

Yes we may all get it (or about 80% of the population, apparently). The measures being put in force are to try and make sure that the NHS can cope with the flow of people needing ventilators/life support.
If you look at from a purely selfish point of view then, certainly at the moment and assuming you are otherwise fit and healthy, the quicker you can get it the better FOR YOU, because there should still be hospital beds available at the moment. IF you get it in a month's time there may not. But the simple fact is that before you even show symptons you are contagious and if you are ignoring the confinement guidance then you are probably passing it on to others, some of whom may die.
IF every single person self isolated for 2 weeks completely i.e. no interaction with anyone else. This virus would probably be eliminated within those 2 weeks as it would have nowhere to spread to. Unfortunately that is not possible in the real world.

I am not ignoring nothing. I'm going to work I'm coming home. I have been having very little contact with the outside world . Ye I'm only 32 and fit. I don't want anyone to catch this and suffer but hard facts say we are going to get it at some point. If I go fishing I mite see 3 people on my syndicate who am I putting in danger? I mite be selfish and not thinking about the older generation but I'm afraid like Iv already said I am going to work until I get told otherwise.

There's no actual proof that getting it will give you any long term immunity anyway. Some viruses don't mutate much, like polio, measles etc. So once you've got an immunity from it, either from vacation or exposure, then you are set for life. Other viruses mutate readily, like influenza, so just cos you had a strain of it last year, that's no protection from this years version. It's why the make up of the flu jab is changed each year as they try to second guess which strains are gonna be the worst in each flu season. Covid19 hasn't been around long enough for anyone to know whether you'll develop an natural immunity.
