Not the first time a "staged" shot has won a major photography prize. There was a photo of a wolf jumping over a gate a few ago that was after dark but the flash lighting was spot on and it was was captured just at the high point of the jump. Someone commented that the wolf looked similar to one in a Polish circus and when the organisers tried to contact the photographer, he wouldn't pick up the 'phone......

I still find the staged wildlife shots more honest than heavily photos hopped ones, I remember one winning image of a large buck deer in mist with dappled early morning sunlight, a beautiful image with a real ethereal feel. The magazine article with the captor show in how it was creating from a boring bland snapshot of a deer and a few hours in photos hop was quite disheartening for me
I've set up a bit in my garden to get some birds closer to photograph them since I can't hunt them down

Knocked this feeder and bath table up a few weeks ago for them to pose on.
The branches are held in place by speaker-to-pole top-hat brackets so I can change them about when I like.
