You're over emphasising the actual number of deaths, the population is bigger.. a lot of the 2000s had a worse mortality rate per 100k of the population according to this did they not?
Sadly 1or 2 thousand people usually die every day in the winter.
I hope you and the family are all ok. Bet you're glad you didn't pay for the booster

Maybe, if you only go up to Dec 2020. But we lost a lot more Jan to March.
Covid has wiped out all the last 10 years gains in average mortality. Gains hard won by better health practises, procedure, science and indeed vaccination programs.
And it's.done that in one fell swoop. And that was WITH lockdowns to stop the spread.

Son just 1 jab. But a previous Delta infection.
Sarah goes.to the gym, shops and a business conference
Last Friday. So could pick it up anywhere. Me not out so much. Dry Jan, don't like shopping. Etc.
She feels a bit rough last Saturday. Bit of a cough Sunday but all tested negative. Went to anfamily restaurant meal.
12 of us.
Tested next day, which was Monday this week, and she was positive.
I also developed a sore throat which gradually turns into a cough but
Not positive until Thursday morning.
She's already recovered. I'm a few days behind but managed
Just now to carry 6 plastic supermarkets trays of food up the drive and steps.
Touch wood, mild effects.
Now we have heard her mum has tested positive. She sat next to her at the meal.
So vaccines working well for us at least.

Right from the start Scientists said IF we can develop a vaccine
The best we can hope for is to decrease severity.
When our kid got Delta. We sidestepped that. Probably due to last year's double jab being so efficient.
Omicron is better at evading it but we still have had it mild.
I'm 54 overweight. Reasonably active but no runner.
Wife is 51 , overweight and Diabetic.
Its a fair bet that it would have gone worse for at least one of us.

That's true.mate. and without the option of using parallel timeliness we never will.
However, each day as new data comes in its increasingly obvious that vaccines and boosters do that job.
And IF one can only believe personal experience and anecdote
Then look at the state you got into.
Stand You Me and my missus together and noone would have picked you to be the one that was hospitalised.

CV revealed a pre existing condition I had with my ticker.......was in there for 9hrs......guess I should be grateful of CV for revealing it......now if I had the Jabs it may have revealed it too or possibly made it worse I'm told by doctor.......

Nearly everyone has a pre existing mate. And the older the more of them. That's what makes Covid such a game changer. The idea of the vaccine is to protect those with pre existing

I like to keep an open mind with this stuff. Info changes on a daily basis. As its a new virus.

Took a view on this early and their need to not feel that they were wrong has coloured their whole experience.
Frankly. Even fairly eminent scientists. Those that totally disagree with Covid regulations and those that would have almost permanent lockdowns. Many just wont flex.
You have those calling for longer lockdowns even when cases were really really low
Against those saying we should all be licking each other despite 15000 in hospital.
Those that said it was all over everytime rates went down
To those that don't want it to be over.
I've also noticed that money/followers and clicks dictates their inflexibility. They can't alienate their followers.
Then there are people that have had their businesses ruined, lost their houses etc. Their view is going to be coloured by that
Those safely working from home and avoiding a hated commute or even better on furlough, that's going to colour their views.
The daftest are the contrarians that just don't like to be told anything. Had a couple actually PM me in in 2020 to.tell me it was all.a Bill Gates conspiracy, that's masks were all.about control etc. I was in a restaurant overlooking St Paul's cathedral for my wife's birthday Junen 2020 , not wearing a mask while he was telling me that we were in lockdown.and never going to be allowed out again.

You had a year before the vaccines were available and a year of being jabbed, yet you state several times that you and your wife are overweight and susceptible to covid complications.
This has been known from day one..
Would it not have made sense to shed that weight in the first few months of the pandemic?
Please please don't take that the wrong way, but being a bit older and overweight puts people at higher risk than me being slim, highly active and unvaccinated

But I was a fat kid then an overweight adult. I have actually lost a lot.of.weight in the last 5 years.
Weight is a factor but not as.much as age if one goes by the stats.
I dropped from 20 stone to a low of 15 10
Over 2 years. 46 waist to 38. Did it the right way to keep muscle.
But frankly I will never be thin.
Anyway wife has a negative test already and I toasted the end
Of my dry January with few Peroni and watching the final Battle in Vikings.

Unless you're 6' 10”. Being 15 stone + with a 38 inch waist is clinically obese.
