My trusted jag maxi file has finally come to the end of it's life and I seem to have lost a cheap one a bought a while back. Before I buy another Jag one are there any better on the market i.e. are people using jewellers files instead?

Less brutal but very efficient is a eze-lap diamond "hand" file in fine grade 600 grit.

Or a fine cut engineers file with no carp tax, this is like the expensive Swiss file but it works perfectly well

Valorbe are as good a you will get but not cheap. Used one for ages. Fits perfectly in a empty korda funnel web tube ti keep it safe.
I get all my files from Superdrug, fine nail files, glass files, diamond files, fine emery boards etc. The last ones I bought a few years ago were only about a £1 to £3 a piece.
Even Aldi's occasionally do a range of very fine diamond files, I have a couple of them next to me now, a very fine round file and a flat/round one, been next to my computer for about 6 years and keep forgetting to put them in my fishing bag to join all my other files.

It's called "hand" which is what they call a flat file.

Cut 4 file plus a Japanese water stone for a hone.

I've tried metal files and such like, but agree and found the best to be simple throwaway emery boards from the chemist - 5pcs for a few quid.

Here is a cheapo Chinese hook that I have just sharpened using the Proops smooth file that I mentioned earlier. Just the Proops file, and no touching up with my ceramic stone!

yes that exact file mate. to be fair i have just had ago with a old mugga and it worked, plus i have had the red and blue easylaps for years aswell.
