Just had a good hour walking round the famous caravan lake, never saw a fish nor does it look like anyone's fishing it either, must be some fish in there still surely, otters I believe have been busy I'm told, anyone share any up to date information please?
What a shame it turned out how it did. Think me and my mates was the first to fish it when had caravan s on it. Had it to ourselves for 3 years before anyone else sussed it out
It had hundreds of carp in it back then full of 20s Then they put a small syndicate on it but they could only fish it from the public foot path side
Had some great times on there a lot of fish got moved to a lake at Peterborough

Was on Carolina lake opposite side of the public footpath for a few days 2 weeks ago when I was back in the area. Was after silver fish on the feeder.
Lake was very, very quiet, just a couple of Roach and small jack pike grabbing the maggots upon retrieval. Couple of locals walking dogs told me of the otters. Bloody great big one came and hissed at me on the corner swim next to the small middle lake, then another surfaced only a couple of meters in front of me before submerging when I clapped my hands. They in there for sure....

Have spent a good few hours walking the area recently and have yet to see an otter or dead carp....maybe because numbers of carp are very small now.

I think you are 100% regarding the number of Carp in either of the lakes mate ....
The locals told me the same ,that they don't see anyone fishing Savannah at all. I used to fish Carolina a lot around 35 years ago before I went overseas.

We found the first carp that had been ottered in 2012 and it was all downhill from then on, it was never going to be fenced with 2 properties backing onto it and also the owners never spent any money on the lakes hence why now there is nothing of any size in there . In 2020 we saw 5 originals spawning and looking back I believe that was all there was left out of the original stock , there are a few small ones left in there now but walking down the public footpath side isn't the place to see them . For those that don't know we found what was left of the linear early last year which was the end of an era for us on there as the syndicate was no more as far as we was concerned . It was a very special place back in its day but all good things come to an end .

Maxey 1 & 2 was the first 2 lakes to not have a syndicate on them anymore , the Carolina prolonged savannahs fate for several years as the otters swam through sav on there way to get the crays in the carolina .
In 2020 we got spawn out of sav which survived so that strain lives on now behind a fence.

Those lakes in and around that area are linked by a network of drains that the Otters use as a road network to navigate from one lake to the other.
There's another water not a million miles away from Maxey, that is unfortunately going the same way. Five years ago it was pound for pound probably one of the best in the country in terms of size and stock of very big, very special old fish. Today it is a shadow of it's former self with lots of the big ones either dead, (Ottered, they lost at least 15 this winter) or on the missing list, including a one time 50 plus. The lake in question is fenced but not properly and they just walk the perimeter looking for the weakest point and bingo....they're in.

That is such a shame those carp are being lost - as most of the hard work - putting the foundation of a perimeter fence has been done, just the lack of maintenence keeping it in tiptop 100% with no holes.
